Managing Your Risks
- It is best to manage your cancer risks based on your family and personal history
- You and your doctor can develop the most appropriate plan for your medical management
- Your doctor can help you decide whether you or a family member should consider further testing
Risk and Your Relatives
- Based on your test result, it is not clear if HBOC syndrome runs in your family
- Some of your relatives may be offered research testing at no charge to gather more information about your variant. Talk to your doctor about this option
- If you need a copy of your genetic test result, please contact the doctor who ordered your test
For Cancer Survivors
Even test results that are not definitive can provide important information about your risk for a second cancer. Knowing that the changes in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes that are linked to cancer were not found can help you and your doctor determine the most effective medical management strategy and reduce your risk.
It is also possible that, at some point, new research may give you and your doctor more definitive information on the genetic variant you carry.
